When the Lichtenstein Foundation saw it, they said Roy would’ve loved it.

Ahead of the Art Institute’s Roy Lichtenstein retrospective, Bank of America and Energy BBDO ran a competition at SAIC. The brief was an original work that embodies Chicago in Lichtenstein’s style. I entered as a student and won. The whole experience hooked me. It’s the reason I went into advertising, and why I started my career at BBDO.

I translated Lichtenstein’s Ben-Day dots and comic linework to Chicago icons. Marina City, the municipal flag, the skyline. Every square foot was hand-painted directly onto brick along the Kennedy Expressway, before painted walls gave way to printed vinyl wraps.
